Mt. Whitney Student Dies after Truck Overturns on Highway 198 at Dickenson Avenue

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (May 11, 2023)Nathan Oliva died in a high-speed rollover crash in Fresno County early Sunday morning on May 7.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 1:00 a.m. on Highway 198 at Dickenson Avenue, just west of Lemoore Naval Air Station. According to the CHP, Oliva was driving a GMC pickup truck on the highway in excess of 60 mph when he veered off the roadway and crashed into a ditch. The pickup truck then overturned onto its roof.
 
Oliva, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 17 years old from Visalia and was a student at Mt. Whitney High School, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
 
The 19-year-old passenger in the vehicle suffered major injuries.
 
At this time, CHP officials are still investigating the accident to determine the factors involved.
