Traffic Accident on 8 Freeway in Midway District Kills Motorcycle Rider and Seriously Injures Passenger

 
MIDWAY DISTRICT, CA (April 30, 2024) – A motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident on 8 Freeway in Midway District Saturday afternoon on April 27.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:30 p.m. just west of the Rosecrans Street off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, the male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the freeway with a 19-year-old female passenger. He was splitting lanes at an unknown speed when he rear-ended a stationary Ford truck, due to heavy traffic.
 
Both the driver of the motorcycle and the passenger were ejected from the impact.
 
The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office withheld his identity at this time.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the woman to a local hospital with major injuries.
 
The driver of the Ford, a 59-year-old Murrieta man, stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
Authorities said impairment was not a factor for the driver of the Ford
 
However, a toxicology report is pending to determine if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the motorcyclist’s actions.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
