Michael Tamez Killed in Hit-and-Run on Santa Fe Drive [Winton, CA]

30-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Winton

 
WINTON, CA (January 11, 2023) – Michael Tamez was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Winton area of Merced County Sunday morning on January 8.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on Santa Fe Drive, just east of California Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, Tamez was walking in an easterly direction along the south portion of Santa Fe Drive. At the same time, a vehicle was traveling eastbound at an unknown rate of speed approaching Tamez.
 
The vehicle struck Tamez causing him to be thrown onto the south shoulder of Santa Fe Drive. After striking the victim, the vehicle continued to travel eastbound.
 
Tamez suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 30 years old from Atwater.
 
This fatality is under investigation, and the CHP Merced Area Office is urging witnesses to contact Officer Lomeli at 209-356-6600 or after hours at 209-356-2900.
