Meylin Barrera Arrested in Illegal Street Race Crash on Old River Road [Bakersfield, CA]

Illegal Street Race Ends in Crash in Bakersfield Injuring Four People

 
BAKERSFIELD (April 23, 2024) – Meylin Rosi Barrera was arrested after an illegal street race crash in southwest Bakersfield Monday evening on April 22.
 
The crash happened just before 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Old River Road and White Lane. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, two Chevrolet Camaros, one white and one black, were street racing illegally when the white Camaro crashed into numerous vehicles, which were stopped at a red light on White Lane.
 
The black Camaro drove over the center median of Old River Road and fled eastbound on White Lane.
 
As a result of the crash, three adults and a minor suffered minor injuries.
 
Barrera, 19, was the driver of the white Camaro. She remained on scene and cooperated with police.

After she was medically cleared at a hospital, police arrested her for charges related to participation in an illegal speed contest, reckless driving, and child endangerment.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the black Camaro possibly had front end and/or undercarriage damage.

It is unknown what vehicle had the child in it at this time.

An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
