Mauricio Mendez Dead in Head-On Accident with Bus on Matthews Road at Ethanac Road

 
MENIFEE, CA (February 2, 2023) — Mauricio Mendez died in a head-on crash with a bus on Matthews Road at Ethanac Road Tuesday afternoon.
 
According to the Menifee Police Department, the fatal accident happened around 3:15 p.m. For unknown reasons, 28-year-old Mendez was weaving in and out of traffic as he approached the intersection, apparently trying to go around slower cars. Subsequently, an RTA bus loaded with an unknown number of passengers heading eastbound on Matthews Road crossed into the path of Mendez’s Mustang. As a result, both vehicles collided in a head-on fashion.
 
Soon after, Riverside County Fire Department officials pronounced Mendez dead 15 minutes later. In addition, several passengers on board the bus suffered minor to moderate injuries. While medics treated some of them at the scene, others brought several patients to a local trauma center.
