Fatal Mission Valley Bicycle Accident on Camino Del Rio, Matthew Keenan Killed

 
MISSION VALLEY, CA (September 28, 2021) — A man died in a bicycle crash on Camino Del Rio near Qualcomm Way on September 14.
 
The victim was identified as 42-year-old San Diego resident Matthew Peter Keenan, according to the San Diego County coroner.
 
According to San Diego Police, helmeted bicyclist Keenan traveled westbound in the westbound bike lane on the 2100 block of Camino Del Rio South. At the same time, a vehicle travelling eastbound crossed over the solid double yellow lines into the westbound lanes. As a result, the vehicle struck Keenan on his bicycle.
 
Paramedics arrived and initiated life support. Despite advanced lifesaving efforts, Keenan died at the scene.
 
The 25-year old driver’s car was stopped nearby, the windshield shattered over the steering wheel. Police did not arrest or cite the driver at this time.
 
Officers ruled out impairment as a possible explanation for the accident. However, an ongoing investigation continues.
