Irwindale Car Accident on Arrow Highway Kills Driver Mathew Romo, Leaves Passenger in Critical Condition

 
IRWINDALE, CA (February 24, 2022) – One person died while his passenger suffered critical injuries in a car accident on Arrow Highway in Irwindale on Monday afternoon.
 
Officials identified 25-year-old Mathew Romo of Covina, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Irwindale Police Department.
 
The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on February 21. According to the Irwindale Police Department, Romo was driving a 2019 Kia sedan east on Arrow Highway when it collided with a 2016 Ford pickup truck that was making a left turn from westbound Arrow Highway to southbound Gayhurst Street.
 
As a result of the collision, the Kia sedan subsequently struck a Southern California Edison utility pole. Subsequently, a power outage occurred to residences and businesses in the area.
 
Paramedics pronounced Romo dead at the scene. A GoFundMe is set up for funeral expenses.
 
Soon after, officials took a female passenger to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
 
The driver of the truck, who was not injured, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
 
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash was asked to call Irwindale police at 626-430-2244.
