81-Year-Old Woman Dies after Struck by Car at Herndon and Del Rey Avenues

 
CLOVIS, CA (January 11, 2023) – Mary Phister was hit and killed by a vehicle near Clovis late Wednesday afternoon on January 4.
 
The fatal crash happened around 5:30 p.m. at Herndon Avenue and Del Rey Avenue. According to the CHP, Phister was wearing dark clothing and walked directly into the path of a car. The car struck her at the intersection.
 
An air ambulance took Phister to a hospital in critical condition. Despite life-saving efforts at the hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries on Thursday morning.
 
Phister was an 81-year-old Clovis resident, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
 
The driver was not injured and was not believed to be under the influence, according to the CHP.
 
An investigation into this fatality is underway.
