Man, Woman Dead in Riverside Wrong-Way Crash on 215 Freeway

 
RIVERSIDE, CA (March 16, 2022) — A man and a woman died in a wrong-way accident on the 215 Freeway near Center Street, early Tuesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. For unknown reasons, a driver in a Ford Fusion entered the northbound side of the freeway yet in a southbound direction.
 
Soon after, law enforcement began receiving several 911 calls about the deadly hazard before receiving additional calls about a two-vehicle crash.
 
Near the Center Street exit, the wrong-way driver slammed into a Ford Focus head-on in the carpool lane. Within minutes, Riverside County Fire Department responded and extricated two people from the heaps of metal, later pronouncing them dead.
 
At this time, investigators have not confirmed if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident. However, the cause of the crash and the victims’ identities should be confirmed following an investigation.
