Bicyclist Suffers Major Injuries after Hit by Dump Truck on 905 Freeway in Otay Mesa

OTAY MESA, CA (June 7, 2023) – A man was seriously injured in a bicycle accident on 905 Freeway in Otay Mesa early Tuesday morning on June 6.

The accident happened around 4:33 a.m. at Britannia Avenue. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the man was riding his bicycle when a large commercial dump truck hit him.

He was trapped for almost an hour underneath the truck.

Firefighters from three agencies worked together to lift the truck enough to slide the injured man from beneath it.

After extrication, paramedics rushed the man to a trauma center for treatment of major life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash and the factors involved remain under investigation.
