Scooter Rider Suffers Critical Injuries in South LA Hit-and-Run on Hooper Avenue

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (October 15, 2021) – A 55-year-old man on a scooter suffered critical injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Hooper Avenue in South Los Angeles Thursday morning.
 
The crash happened just before 10:40 a.m. on October 14, near East 48th Place. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the man was riding his scooter northbound on Hooper Avenue when a gray Honda Civic that negotiated an unsafe left turn onto East 48th Place struck him.
 
The man was knocked off his scooter onto the street. The Honda driver stopped momentarily before fleeing the scene.
 
Paramedics arrived soon after and took the man to a hospital in critical condition.
 
Police described the Honda as a 2012 to 2015 model with tinted windows, chrome tires, a rear spoiler and no front license plate. They said the car may possess damage to its rear bumper or the bumper may be missing entirely.
 
At this time, the hit-and-run suspect, described as a red-haired woman, remains at large.

Give way to small vehicles like scooters to avoid accidents. Increase your following distance behind riders and maintain a safe speed. Also, do not leave the scene when you get involved in an accident. Pull over and call 911.
