Wrong-Way Driver Dies after Crashing Head-On with Another Car on North Melrose Drive in Vista

 
VISTA, CA (September 29, 2023) – A man was killed in a wrong-way head-on crash on North Melrose Drive in Vista Thursday morning on September 28.
 
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a Chevrolet was traveling northbound when it drifted into the southbound lane. While traveling the wrong way, it collided head-on with a Toyota in the 400 block of North Melrose Drive around 7:00 a.m.
 
First responders attempted lifesaving measures on the driver of the Chevrolet, but he died at the scene.
 
The Toyota driver was not hurt.
 
Deputies shut down both northbound and southbound traffic lanes between Copper Drive and Olive Avenue for several hours while they worked on the scene.
 
It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol was a factor. The crash is still under investigation.
 
Deputies asked anyone with additional information to call the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department at 858-565-5200.
