Driver Killed in Wrong-Way Accident on Highway 37 in Mare Island

 
MARE ISLAND, CA (March 11, 2024) — A man died in a wrong-way crash on Highway 37 near Walnut Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-car crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. For an unknown reason, a man in his 30s hopped onto the highway and headed westbound in the eastbound lane. Subsequently, the man’s blue PT Cruiser collided with a gold Nissan heading eastbound.
 
Soon after, police and paramedics arrived at the scene to find the unidentified PT Cruiser driver with significant injuries. Despite receiving life-saving measures, he passed away in the crash. The Nissan driver was not seriously injured, reports confirmed.
 
According to an investigation, authorities learned that the PT Cruiser was traveling about 45 miles per hour before the impact. However, they did not confirm the factors leading to the wrong-way crash.
