Passenger Dies After Car Crashes on Highway 24 in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, CA (January 10, 2023) – A man died and a woman was injured in a car accident on Highway 24 in Lafayette Sunday morning on January 8.

The accident happened around 10:25 a.m. near Oak Hill Road. According to the CHP, a Toyota Yaris went off the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree in the center median.

Paramedics arrived and took both the driver and passenger to a hospital, where the passenger was pronounced dead. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division withheld his name pending next of kin notification.

Meanwhile, the female driver was treated for severe injuries.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. They asked witnesses to contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
