Michael Leon Killed in Pedestrian Accident near El Segundo Boulevard [Hawthorne, CA]

13-Year-Old Boy Dies, Father Suffers Injuries after Vehicle Struck Them in Hawthorne

 
HAWTHORNE, CA (January 10, 2023) – Michael Leon was killed in a pedestrian accident in Hawthorne Sunday evening on January 8.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:35 p.m. near the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Truro Avenue. According to Hawthorne police, the victim, his father and and his younger sister were crossing the street after leaving a nearby laundromat when a car headed westbound approached them.
 
The girl saw the vehicle coming and was able to get out of the way, but Leon was struck and was thrown some distance away. The father was also hit but escaped serious injury.
 
Leon suffered significant trauma to his upper body and head died at the scene. He was 13 years old from Hawthorne, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the car remained on scene and cooperated with police.
 
An investigation into this crash is underway.
