Car Crashes into Parked Big Rig on 5 Freeway in Bakersfield Killing 1 and Injuring 2

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 13, 2024) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on 5 Freeway in Bakersfield early Monday morning on February 12.
 
The fatal accident happened just after 3:30 a.m. north of the Lerdo Highway off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving south of the freeway when he crashed into a Volvo big rig that was parked on the right shoulder.
 
As a result of the crash, the man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 25-year-old San Francisco resident.
 
Two passengers in the vehicle, ages 24 and 26, were transported to Kern Medical with major and minor injuies.
 
The 24-year-old passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
 
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
