Wrong-Way Crash in Turlock Kills One Driver, Injures Father and Son

 
TURLOCK, CA (June 22, 2023) – A man died and Thomas Guerrero was seriously injured after a wrong-way crash in Turlock early Tuesday morning on June 20.
 
The fatal crash happened around 3:17 a.m. on Highway 99, just north of Lander Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a white sedan south in the northbound lanes when he collided head-on with a Tesla that was traveling north at approximately 70 mph.
 
The impact caused the white sedan to overturn on its side and burst into flames.
 
Responding firefighters extinguished the flames, but the driver died inside the car.
 
Guerrero, a 37-year-old Escalon resident, was the driver of the Tesla. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital with major injuries.
 
Guerrero’s 6-year-old son suffered moderate injuries and was airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera.
 
Authorities believe that the driver of the sedan was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
 
Further investigation is underway.
