Man Dead in Single-Car Crash on 580 Freeway in Ashland

 
ASHLAND, CA (March 28, 2022) — A man died in a solo-car accident on the 580 Freeway at the 238 Freeway on Saturday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle accident happened around 10:23 p.m. For unknown reasons, a westbound 2021 Tesla Y veered off the road and drove down an embankment. Subsequently, the Tesla caught on fire after it struck a metal pole and a northbound 238 Freeway bridge abutment.
 
Fortunately, a San Francisco man and an Oakland woman exited the vehicle in time for care.
 
However, a third passenger, who was not wearing his seatbelt, became trapped and died later at the scene.
 
Shortly after, paramedics responded and brought the two passengers to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
 
As for the 64-year-old Oakland man driving the Tesla, officers booked him into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run on DUI.
 
At this time, reports have not released the identity of the fatal victim and outstanding details of this crash. However, we will update this report once we receive additional information.
