Pedestrian Dies after Struck by SUV while Standing in Lanes of Highway 99 in Central Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 27, 2022) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 in central Bakersfield Thursday evening on November 24.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:51 p.m. just south of the California Avenue off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking on the right shoulder of the northbound freeway. A short time later, he began standing in traffic lanes when a Honda CR-V struck him.
 
The impact caused the man fatal injuries and he died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
The driver of SUV, 72-year-old Robert Catrini of Mission Hills, remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. He was not injured and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
 
Further investigation is underway.
