Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Car while Running Across 880 Freeway in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (August 15, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 880 Freeway in Oakland late Sunday evening on August 13.
 
The fatal accident happened around 11:13 p.m. near 29th Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the male pedestrian was running across the freeway from the south shoulder when he was struck by a car.
 
First responders provided first aid to the injured man at the scene before taking him to a hospital.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m. Monday. He was not yet identified.
 
The driver involved stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol was a factor. Further investigation is underway.
