Deadly Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway in Downtown San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 22, 2021) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in downtown San Diego Thursday evening.
 
The fatal accident happened just after 8:50 p.m. on November 18, near Pacific Highway. According to California Highway Patrol, the man was standing on the right side of the freeway and then tried to cross the southbound lanes when he was struck. Several drivers stopped in the area, but it was unclear how many vehicles were involved.
 
The impact caused the man fatal injuries and he died at the scene. Coroner’s officials did not release the victim’s identity at this time.
 
Authorities shut down all southbound lanes of the freeway for at least 50 minutes and issued a traffic alert, according to Caltrans San Diego.
 
No other details of the accident were immediately available. Further investigation is underway.
