Pedestrian Dies after Struck by SUV on 5 Freeway in North Park

 
NORTH PARK, CA (February 25, 2024) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in the North Park area of San Diego late Friday evening on February 23.
 
The fatal accident happened around 11:45 p.m. just north of Old Town Avenue. According to California Highway Patrol, the male pedestrian was walking within the traffic lanes of northbound 5 Freeway when a white Subaru Soltera struck him.
 
The impact caused the pedestrian critical injuries. First responders attempted saving him, but he died at the scene.
 
At this time, the identity of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
The driver of the Soltera, a 51-year-old San Diego man, stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
CHP said a toxicology report is pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.
 
An investigation is ongoing. CHP officers asked anyone with further information to call investigators at 858-293-6000.
