Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Sedan on 5 Freeway in Cortez Hill Neighborhood

 
CORTEZ HILL, CA (September 19, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in the Cortez Hill neighborhood of San Diego Sunday evening on September 17.
 
The fatal accident happened just after 8:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the freeway near Highway 163. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking in traffic lanes when he was struck by a Nissan Altima.
 
The impact caused the man serious injurie and he died at the scene.
 
The Nissan driver, a 26-year-old woman, pulled over and cooperated with officers. She was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
 
An investigation is underway. The CHP asked anyone with further information to call them at 858-293-6000.
 
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine whether the pedestrian, who has not been publicly identified, was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
