35-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Car on Weedpatch Highway in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 16, 2023) – A 35-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Weedpatch Highway in Bakersfield Thursday evening on April 13.

The fatal crash happened around 8:11 p.m. just north of Blackburn Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking westsbound across the highway when a sedan struck him.

Kern County Fire Department crews responded and found the man on the right shoulder of the highway. They pronounced him dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver had fled the scene.

A witness told officers that it was possible the driver did not see the man, as it had not slowed down or tried to evade him. They described the car as a white Nissan sedan, possibly a Sentra or Altima model.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. The CHP urged anyone with information to call the Bakersfield Area CHP Office at 661-396-6600.
