Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash at Ashby Avenue and Adeline Street

BERKELEY, CA (September 16, 2021) – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash at Ashby Avenue and Adeline Street in Berkeley earlier this month.

Around 12:35 a.m. on September 6, police responded to the scene after receiving reports of the man lying in the center median. When they arrived, they found the man suffering from severe injuries. They tried life-saving measures until firefighters arrived.

Sadly, the victim did not survive and died at the scene.

Investigators found no apparent collision signs or obvious trauma. A preliminarily investigation assessed the death as being caused by a medical emergency. But an autopsy conducted days later found the man’s injuries showed he had been struck by a vehicle, most likely late on September 5.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s coroner’s division said Wednesday the man’s identity was still pending.

The hit-and-run suspect remains at large. The crash is still under investigation.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the man.
