Head-On Crash on South Mount Vernon Avenue in Bakersfield Kills 1 and Injures Another

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 12, 2023) – A man was killed in a head-on accident on South Mount Vernon Avenue in south Bakersfield late Tuesday afternoon.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:44 p.m. on January 10, near East Belle Terrace. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed veered into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason and collided head-on with another car.
 
As a result, one of the male drivers died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
 
The other male driver was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
 
Police said speed was a factor in the crash, but they will need to wait for toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol also played a part.
 
An investigation is underway. Police asked witnesses to contact them at 661-327-7111.
