DUI Hit-and-Run Man Fatally Strikes Another Motorist on 680 Freeway in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (February 14, 2023) – A man was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash on 680 Freeway in San Jose late Sunday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 11:00 p.m. on February 12, just south of Hostetter Road. According to the CHP, a 49-year-old Fremont man was driving a GMC pickup truck when he rear-ended a Ford Focus at high speed.
 
Responding officers located the Focus in the carpool lane with the driver unconscious inside. They said the victim died at the scene.
 
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office only identified the victim as a 64-year-old San Jose man. They withheld his identity pending next of kin notification.
 
Meanwhile, the GMC came to rest on a grass field. The driver fled the scene on foot.
 
The suspect was later contacted at his residence in Fremont and was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and DUI. Alcohol was suspected to be a factor in the crash.
 
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
