SAN DIEGO, CA (March 6, 2023) — A man died in a 2-car accident on Market Street near 45th Street.

According to San Diego Police officers, the fatal two-car collision happened around 2:00 p.m. Sunday. For unknown reasons, a 63-year-old man driving a 1993 Nissan Maxima crossed the center line and struck a 2018 Lexus RX350 SUV in the eastbound lanes.

Shortly after, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Firefighters arrived and used the Jaws of Life to extricate the 63-year-old Nissan driver. However, after freeing him and shuttling him to a hospital, he passed away moments later. Officials have not released the victim’s name.

A passenger in the Lexus complained of chest pains, while the Lexus driver and another passenger were unharmed.

Authorities have not confirmed if DUI played a factor, but an investigation into these details should reveal what drove the accident.
