1 Killed in 2-Car Accident on 5 Freeway in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 26, 2024) — A man died in a 2-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Del Mar Heights Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 4:16 a.m. Thursday. For unclear reasons, a driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup lost control of the vehicle. Subsequently, the Toyota slammed into the rear of a parked semi-truck on the shoulder.
 
Shortly after, fire crews arrived to find the Toyota wedged underneath the other vehicle and the Toyota driver trapped in the wreckage. Following an hours-long rescue, emergency responders found the victim deceased at the scene.
 
No one else reported any injuries in the crash. Authorities did not release the cause of the accident or the name of the victim, only describing him as a 39-year-old from Westminster.
