Man Arrested after Hit-and-Run on 5 Freeway [Fresno County, CA]

Burglary Reported after Hit-and-Run on 5 Freeway near Highway 198

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (December 26, 2022) – Authorities arrested a 30-year-old man following a hit-and-run accident on 5 Freeway, early Sunday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 25, at about 1:30 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a small sedan stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate.
 
Then, a big rig attempted to avoid the sedan but overturned near Highway 198.
 
As per reports, the driver of the sedan exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. A short time later, the sedan driver broke into a food mart near the 76 gas station.
 
Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and were able to stop the man from setting the store on fire.
 
Responders arrested the man, whose name was not released.
 
The big rig driver and the sedan driver sustained minor injuries but did not need hospitalization.
 
Investigators suspect that drugs played a role in the incident.
