Briseida Mariscal Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Floral Avenue [Selma, CA]

17-Year-Old Girl Dies after Struck by Car in Selma

 
SELMA, CA (December 26, 2022) – Briseida Mariscal was killed in a pedestrian accident in Selma earlier this month.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:20 a.m. on December 8, at the intersection of Floral Avenue and Wright Street. According to the Selma Police Department, the 17-year-old victim was walking in a crosswalk when a vehicle struck her.
 
The teen was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, she later died on her 17th birthday.
 
Meanwhile, the involved driver remained on scene and cooperated with police. They were identified as 18-year-old Gabriel Basulto of Selma.
 
According to investigators, Basulto was booked into the Fresno County Jail where he now faces several charges, including failure to yield right of way to a pedestrian, unsafe turning motion, and felony vehicular manslaughter.
 
Officers do not believe alcohol and drugs were contributing factors. An investigation is underway.
