Luis Ibarra Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on First Street [Santa Ana, CA]

Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Suspect after Fatally Striking Pedestrian in Santa Ana

 
SANTA ANA, CA (April 28, 2024) – Luis Duarte Ibarra was arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Santa Ana early Thursday morning on April 25.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:30 a.m. at First Street and Sullivan Street. According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the 51-year-old suspect of Santa Ana was driving a west on First Street when he struck the pedestrian, who was standing in the roadway.
 
After striking the victim, Ibarra continued driving westbound without stopping.
 
Responding officers found the male pedestrian unresponsive in the roadway.
 
A short time later, the Orange County Fire Authority personnel pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
 
Police later found Ibarra around 4:45 a.m. Friday in Garden Grove. They arrested and booked him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
 
It was unclear if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, which is under investigation.
