Three-Vehicle Crash in San Jacinto Kills Two People and Injures Two Others
SAN JACINTO, CA, CA (October 18, 2023) – Luis Bates was among two people who died in a three-vehicle accident in San Jacinto Monday morning on October 16.
The fatal accident happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Ramona Expressway, just west of Warren Road. According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, a dark-colored SUV was speeding along in an eastbound lane, tried to pass another vehicle and instead struck the median and went into oncoming traffic. It then collided with a utility truck then crossed back into the eastbound lane where it was hit by another vehicle.
As a result of the crash, the two occupants of the SUV both died at the scene.
The coroner’s office identified Bates as one of the occupants. He was a 66-year-old Artesia resident. It is still unclear whether he was the driver or passenger. The identity of the second person killed has not yet been released.
Meanwhile, the two other drivers suffered moderate injuries.
A pit bull was among the occupants in one of the vehicles. The canine survived and was transported for veterinary evaluation.
Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. They asked anyone with further information to call Deputy Post at the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station at 951-766-2365 or Riverside County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 951-776-1099.
