Woman Dies after Struck by VTA Bus in San Jose, Denied Boarding for Not Wearing Mask

 
SAN JOSE, CA (February 26, 2022) – Lucy Prieto Frescas was hit and killed by a VTA bus in central San Jose earlier this month.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:53 p.m. on February 9 at the bus stop of Senter Road and Needles Drive. According to the San Jose Police Department, Frescas tried to catch the Route 73 bus at the front door. She was not wearing a mandated COVID face mask, so the driver would not let her board.
 
As the bus pulled away, Frescas tripped and fell before she was run over by the bus’s back tires as the driver pulled away from the curb.
 
As a result, Frescas suffered life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital, where she died Monday, February 21. She was 59 years old.
 
The bus driver pulled over after the crash.
