Leonel Melgar Killed in Car Accident on Avenue K [Lancaster, CA]

Coroner Identifies Passenger Killed in Lancaster Crash at Avenue K and 17th Street East

 
LANCASTER, CA (June 10, 2021) – Leonel Tovar Melgar died in a car accident in Lancaster Saturday afternoon, June 5.
 
The accident happened around 4:46 p.m. near the intersection of Avenue K and 17th Street East. According to the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, Melgar was a front seat passenger in a Honda that was traveling eastbound on Avenue K. For unknown reasons, the car lost control and crossed over the raised center median. It then entered into opposing westbound lanes of travel on Avenue K.
 
Melgar suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 27-year-old Palmdale resident, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
 
The driver, whose name was not released, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
 
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. This fatal accident remains under investigation.
