Kevin Olvera Among 2 Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Van Buren Boulevard [Riverside, CA]

Unlicensed Driver Fatally Strikes 2 Pedestrians and Dog in Riverside

 
RIVERSIDE, CA (June 27, 2023) – Kevin Olvera was among two men who were hit and killed by an unlicensed driver in Riverside late Sunday evening on June 25.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:45 p.m. on Van Buren Boulevard at Challen Avenue. According to the Riverside Police Department, a 17-year-old driver of a 2011 GMC pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and jumped the curb going southbound on Van Buren where the two men and the dog were walking.
 
All three were declared dead at the scene. The truck also slammed into a traffic signal.
 
Olvera, 19, was identified as one of the victims. He leaves behind two children, including Karla Olvera, his daughter born on June 14.
 
The second victim was a man in his 30s.
 
Police said that they believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. They arrested the unlicensed teen driver.
 
At this time, an investigation is ongoing.
