Bakersfield Woman Killed, Juan Morales Jr. Arrested after Car Crash on 5 Freeway near Grapevine Road

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 24, 2022) – Authorities arrested 18-year-old Juan Morales Jr. following a fatal solo car crash on 5 Freeway, late Tuesday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on March 22 at about 11:00 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a 2004 Nissan Maxima became involved in a crash.
 
Emergency crews pronounced a 25-year-old Bakersfield woman dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, a 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy sustained major injuries. A 3-year-old girl secured in a child safety seat suffered moderate injuries. As per reports, a 1-year-old boy did not sustain injuries.
 
Officers arrested the driver, Morales Jr., on suspicion of child cruelty and carrying a concealed, unregistered firearm. He is being held in lieu of $65,000 bail.
 
CHP ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the fatal crash.
