Pursuit Crash Involving DUI Suspect in Oroville Injures Several Officers

 
OROVILLE, CA (February 23, 2024) – Joshua Ivarson of Chico was arrested after a pursuit crash in Oroville Thursday morning on February 22.
 
Around 7:45 a.m. an officer pulled over Ivarson who was driving a black Nissan Altima near Ophir Road and Feather River Boulevard. However, Ivarson sped off and led the officer on a pursuit through Oroville.
 
During the pursuit, Ivarson crashed into multiple fences and intentionally rammed into a CHP vehicle before disabling his own vehicle. He then fled the scene on foot and got into a physical altercation when officers attempted to catch him.
 
An officer sustained a major head injury during the scuffle, another suffered hand injuries, and a supervisor reportedly had wrist injuries.
 
Ultimately, Ivarson was arrested and booked into the Butte County jail for his outstanding warrants, as well as felony evasion, assault on a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon, physically resisting an officer, DUI of drugs, hit and run, suspended license for DUI, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
 
All injured officers have been treated and released from the hospital.
 
The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
