Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Teen Driver on Mount Whitney Avenue in Fresno County

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (April 24, 2023) – Joseph Roberts was killed in a pedestrian accident in Fresno County early Saturday morning on April 22.
 
The fatal accident happened around 12:40 a.m. on Mount Whitney Avenue, just west of Hayes Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, Roberts ran across the roadway and into the path of a westbound Nissan 350Z.
 
The driver of the Nissan, a 16-year-old male from Riverdale, was unable to take evasive action to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
 
Roberts died upon impact. He was 30 years old, also from Riverdale, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
 
The CHP do not believe the teen driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but a toxicology test will determine if Roberts was under the influence.
 
An investigation is underway.
