Motorcyclist Dies after Colliding Head-On with Car in Lompoc

 
LOMPOC, CA (October 27, 2023) – Joseph Cruz was killed in a head-on accident in Lompoc late Wednesday afternoon on October 25.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:45 p.m. on Highway 1, about 1.8 miles south of Highway 246. According to the Lompoc Police Department, Cruz was riding his 2015 Yamaha motorcycle southbound at a speed of more than 55 mph when he drifted into the oncoming lane around a curve.
 
Cruz then went directly into the path of an oncoming 2022 Tesla, going approximately 55 mph, causing the vehicles to collide head-on.
 
As a result of the crash, Cruz suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 23 years old from Lompoc.
 
The driver of the Tesla, a 38-year-old Lompoc woman, sustained minor injuries.
 
The crash remains under investigation. Police asked anyone with further information to contact CHP’s Buellton area office at 805-688-5551.
