78-Year-Old Man Dies after Crash with DUI Driver in Redding

 
REDDING, CA (November 28, 2023)Jose Luis Zuno was killed in a DUI crash in Redding Saturday afternoon on November 25.
 
The fatal crash happened around 3:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Hartnell Avenue near Churn Creek Road. According to the Redding Police Department, 31-year-old Daveiontay Norwood of Redding was driving a pickup truck at a high rate of speed when he struck Zuno’s truck that was pulling out of a driveway.
 
Zuno was trapped inside his truck after the crash. Responding paramedics extricated him and rushed him to Mercy Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was a 78-year-old Redding resident, according to the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
 
Meanwhile, Norwood showed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. Police arrested him and booked him into the Shasta County Jail on multiple DUI-related charges.
 
There was a passenger in Norwood’s car, but they ran away immediately after the crash.
 
An investigation is underway. Police urged anyone with further information to call them at 530-225-4200.
