Avila Beach Man Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash while Riding His Motorcycle

 
SHELL BEACH, CA (April 24, 2021) – Authorities identified the motorcyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 101 near Shell Beach.
 
He was 62-year-old Jim Hayes of Avila Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol.
 
The accident happened just after 6:00 p.m. on March 23 in the southbound lanes of Highway 101, just south of Avila Beach Drive. Hayes was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound when a vehicle struck him.
 
Emergency personnel transported Hayes to a local hospital with head and leg injuries. Hayes remained hospitalized until he passed away on April 3.
 
The involved vehicle fled the scene after the crash and still at large.
 
CHP officials said the crash is still under investigation as no witnesses to the crash have come forward at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Luis Obispo area CHP office at (805) 594-8700.
