Head-On Crash on Highway 4 near Cottage Springs Sends 3 to Hospital

 
COTTAGE SPRINGS, CA (August 7, 2021) – Jessy Lee Woodard and Rhonda Santen sustained injuries in a head-on accident on Highway 4 Monday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. on August 2, just east of Beatrice Drive. Woodard, a 23-year-old Bear Valley resident, was driving a 2003 Subaru Outback eastbound with a 3-year-old passenger.
 
For unknown reasons, Woodard’s Outback crossed to the left of the solid double yellow lines into the path of a 2020 Subaru Forester traveling westbound and driven by Santen, a 65-year-old Pinole resident. The two vehicles collided head-on.
 
As a result, Woodard suffered moderate injuries, while her passenger and Santen had major injuries. All three of them were transported to UC Davis Medical Center.
 
Meanwhile, a dog also sustained injuries in the crash and ran off afterwards. Cal Fire and citizens on scene conducted a search and were able to locate the animal.
 
All parties involved in the crash were wearing safety equipment. Officers did not suspect alcohol and/or drugs as a factor in the crash.
 
At this time, the California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
