19-Year-Old Driver Dies after Struck by Another Motorist in Southwest Bakersfield, Police Arrest Kimberly Phommasouk for DUI

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 14, 2022)Jermari Pierre Terrell died in a DUI crash in Southwest Bakersfield on Wednesday evening.
 
The crash happened just before 10:00 on March 9 in the 4400 block of White Lane near Dovewood Street. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, 29-year-old Kimberly Phommasouk was driving an SUV eastbound when she made a turn north in front of oncoming traffic and hit a 2-door coupe car, driven by Terrell.
 
The coupe then veered off the roadway from the impact and struck a gas line, which caused a gas leak.
 
As a result of the crash, Terrell suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 19-year-old Bakersfield resident.
 
Police evacuated 12 apartments for about more than an hour and a half while PG&E turned off the gas.
 
Meanwhile, Phommasouk suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Police later arrested her on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony driving under the influence resulting in death and driving under the influence with blood alcohol concentration greater than 0.08 percent.
