73-Year-Old Woman Suffers Major Injuries after Hit by Car on Highway 3 in Hayfork

 
HAYFORK, CA (January 8, 2023)Janet Capes was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident in Hayfork Tuesday night on January 3.
 
The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. on Highway 3 near Brady Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 73-year-old victim was walking north on the highway when a 2014 Toyota traveling at about 25 mph hit her. Capes landed in the bike lane after the impact.
 
The driver of the Toyota, 57-year-old Sarah Ackerly, immediately stopped and called 911. She was unharmed.
 
Responding paramedics rushed Capes to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries.
 
The CHP said Capes was holding a flashlight in her hand but it was not on. They added that it was cold, raining and foggy at the time of the crash.
 
An investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact the CHP Trinity River Office.
