James Willis, Patricio Cabrera Jr. Die, Astrid Willis Hospitalized in 2-Vehicle Accident on Highway 1 near Bean Hollow Road

 
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA (June 1, 2023) — James Willis and Patricio Cabrera Jr. died in a two-car crash on Highway 1 near Bean Hollow Road Tuesday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle collision happened around 7:20 p.m. For an unknown reason, a driver of either a Subaru or a Tesla model veered into the opposing lane of their travel and sideswiped the other vehicle. Upon impact, both vehicles lost control and crashed into a nearby lagoon.
 
Multiple first responder agencies arrived to find the Tesla submerged in the water while the Subaru appeared partially submerged.
 
Authorities identified the deceased drivers as 66-year-old James Willis, of Davenport, and 29-year-old Patricio Cabrera Jr., of San Francisco. A 62-year-old woman in the Subaru, identified as Astrid Willis and wife of James, suffered major injuries. Medics airlifted her to Stanford Hospital, where she remains in critical care.
