Driver Killed in 3-Car Crash on Highway 119 in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 1, 2023) — One person died in a 3-car accident on Highway 119 near Coles Levee Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal multi-vehicle crash happened around 5:29 a.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a Taft man driving an eastbound GMC 2500 on the highway came close to a westbound Ford F-250 at speeds of 55 mph. The GMC 2500 subsequently entered the westbound lane and crashed into the front left side of the Ford. Subsequently, the GMC 2500 crashed head-on with a westbound GMC Sierra 1500 traveling behind the Ford.
The driver of the GMC 1500 suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Authorities did not release his name.
As for the Bakersfield man driving the Ford and the Taft man driving the GMC 2500, they suffered major injuries.
Traffic investigators confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol factored in the collision, but an investigation should reveal more details.
