70-Year-Old James Venenciano Dies in San Leadro DUI Crash Involving 3 Vehicles
SAN LEANDRO, CA (July 11, 2021) – James R. Venenciano was killed in a DUI crash early Thursday morning on 880 Freeway in San Leandro.
The accident happened around 12:07 a.m. on July 8, just south of Aladdin Avenue overcrossing. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 70-year-old Fremont man was driving an Acura MDX southbound on the freeway. For unknown reasons, he collided with a semi truck traveling in the lane closest to the shoulder.
The impact caused the Acura to go back across the traffic lanes where it collided with the concrete center median. It then came to a stop in the lane closest to the median.
A Nissan that was going in the lane attempted to swerve out of the way, but collided with the Acura, CHP officials said.
Responding paramedics rushed Venenciano to a hospital where he died at 5:20 a.m.
Police arrested the man driving the Nissan on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the Hayward CHP office at 510-489-1500.
We would like to express our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of James Venenciano.
