Jaime Sanchez Killed in Merced Pedestrian Accident

 
MERCED, CA (August 24, 2021) — A man died in a pedestrian accident on Childs Avenue at Watertown Drive early Monday, August 16.
 
The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 43-year-old Jamie Sanchez of Merced.
 
According to authorities, the fatal accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. A passing motorist found Sanchez lying in the roadway and alerted authorities.
 
Under unclear circumstances, a 22-year-old man driving a 2004 Mercedes eastbound on East Childs Avenue struck Sanchez. In the investigation, officers stated that the victim was possibly walking in the roadway prior to the accident.
 
The driver initially fled before returning a short time later and cooperated with officers. Police said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.
 
The driver was cited on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury or death. The individual was released due to jail booking protocols, according to police.
