Passenger Dies after DUI Driver Crashes Car on Avenue 51 in Coachella

 
COACHELLA, CA (June 8, 2023)Jacob Snellings was killed in a DUI crash in Coachella Tuesday evening on June 6.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:15 p.m. at Avenue 51 and Chiapas Drive. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, 38-year-old Antonio Tellez Leon of Coachella was driving a vehicle when he collided with another car at the intersection.
 
When officers arrived, they found Leon and Snellings inside their vehicle with major injuries.
 
Life-saving measures were performed, but Snelling died at the scene. He was a 21-year-old Coachella resident, according to the coroner’s office.
 
The driver of the other car was unharmed.
 
Police later arrested Leon on suspicion of murder, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, violation of probation and DUI. They booked him into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
